Agilent 1100 Series HPLC Troubleshooting and Service
HPLC service, breakdown support and spares across Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Frequently asked about the Agilent 1100 Series HPLC
Straight answers from the engineers who service it — from our own service notes, published guides and the instrument's own documentation.
What does the Agilent 1100 Series HPLC stack consist of, and is it still worth running?
The complete 1100 stack is a quaternary pump, autosampler, column oven and UV detector. It remains one of the most proven HPLC platforms in Indian pharma QC laboratories, and spares are still easy to source — which is what keeps it economical to run rather than a liability. On this platform we service the pump head, seals, check valves and the detector lamp, and we stock the common wear parts.
Are Agilent 1100 and 1200 modules interchangeable?
The two series share a modular design, so pumps, autosamplers, column compartments and detectors are often combined across the generations. What must be checked is the control software and firmware compatibility for the exact combination, and the condition of the wear parts in each module — pump seals and check valves, the needle and rotor seal in the autosampler, and lamp hours in the detector. Ask us about the specific modules before assuming a mix will run.
Is a refurbished Agilent 1100 a sensible purchase?
Agilent 1100/1200 systems are among the refurbished instruments that move most, precisely because spare parts are available and the software side can be arranged. Judge the unit, not the model name: ask what the pump seals, check valves, needle and rotor seal history is, what lamp hours the detector has, which software will control it, and what installation, qualification and spares support is included in writing. Our refurbished Agilent 1100/1200 page sets out what to ask.
Why is the pressure on my Agilent 1100 rising?
Rising backpressure almost always means a blockage — the analytical column, the guard column or the in-line filter — and the most common cause is precipitated buffer. Phosphate and similar buffers must never be flushed straight into an organic solvent: the salt crystallises and can block the pump, injector and column together. The safe order is buffer, then water, then organic. If the pressure falls or fluctuates instead of rising, look at the pump seal, the check valves or a leak.
Which spare parts wear out on a Agilent 1100?
The predictable ones: the deuterium lamp in the UV detector (roughly 2000 hours of use), pump seals, pistons and check valves, the injector rotor seal and needle seat, in-line filters and solvent frits, the guard column, PEEK and steel fittings, ferrules, vials and septa. These are the parts that come up on service visit after service visit, and the ones worth keeping on the shelf.
Why is the baseline on the Agilent 1100 noisy or drifting?
Four causes cover most cases: the detector lamp is at the end of its life, there is air or dirt in the flow cell, the mobile phase is not mixing or degassing properly, or the room temperature is changing during the run. Work through them in that order before assuming an electronic fault. Our checklist Diagnosing HPLC baseline noise and drift walks through it step by step.
Do you service the Agilent 1100 in Mumbai, Thane or Pune?
Yes. Vision Analytical is based in Ambernath in Thane district and has worked with laboratories across Maharashtra and Gujarat since 2022, including Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. When you enquire, share the laboratory address and the instrument's full model name. Coverage does not mean a branch office or a guaranteed response time in every city — scheduling is confirmed directly with you.
What is the difference between an AMC and a CMC for a Agilent 1100?
An AMC covers the engineer's visits and labour — typically two preventive visits a year plus breakdown calls — with spare parts charged separately. A CMC is comprehensive: the wear parts are included too, although items such as lamps, columns and glassware are often excluded and the contract wording decides. Calibration is scheduled every 6 or 12 months according to your own SOP, not ours. Our article AMC vs CMC: what's the difference? goes through how to choose.
