What an HPLC AMC from Vision Analytical covers
An Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) covers scheduled preventive maintenance visits and the labour for breakdown calls on the instruments named in the contract. Spare parts used in a repair are billed separately. A Comprehensive Maintenance Contract (CMC) covers the same visits and labour and also the spare parts consumed in covered repairs, within limits agreed in writing. Consumables such as columns, lamps, vials and filters are normally outside both. We write AMC and CMC contracts for HPLC systems from Waters, Shimadzu and Agilent Technologies, and for GC, UV-Vis and other analytical instruments in the same laboratory, so one contract can cover the whole instrument room.
What happens at each preventive maintenance visit
Each visit follows the instrument module by module. On the pump the engineer checks pressure ripple and leaks and replaces wear parts such as plunger seals and check valves when they are due. On the autosampler the needle, needle seat and rotor seal are inspected for wear and carryover. The column oven temperature and the detector lamp hours and energy are checked, and the degasser is tested. You receive a written service report that lists the work done, the parts replaced and the test results, so the record is ready for an internal audit or a regulatory inspection.
Choosing between AMC and CMC
An AMC costs less per year and suits newer instruments with light use. A CMC costs more but makes the year's spending predictable, which suits older or heavily used systems where pumps and detectors need parts more often. Many laboratories mix both, a CMC on the oldest HPLC and an AMC on the rest. Send us the instrument list with make, model, serial number, age and roughly how many hours a day each system runs, and we will suggest a contract for each instrument. We do not recommend the more expensive contract by default.
