Agilent 8860 Gas Chromatograph Troubleshooting and Service
GC service, breakdown support and spares across Maharashtra and Gujarat.
No guide published for this model yet
We service this instrument, but nothing has been written up for it here so far. We only publish what our own engineers have actually seen on the bench, so this page waits until there is something real to put on it.
If it is down right now, that does not have to wait. Tell us the model and what it is doing — high pressure, no ignition, a code on the screen — and someone who works on this instrument will answer.

Frequently asked about the Agilent 8860 Gas Chromatograph
Straight answers from the engineers who service it — from our own service notes, published guides and the instrument's own documentation.
Does the Agilent 8860 GC need a separate workstation?
No. The 8860 is a compact GC built for tight benches and is driven entirely from a browser, with no separate workstation to buy, license or qualify. That makes it the cleanest choice for routine QC where both bench space and IT overhead are real constraints.
Which detector do I need on a Agilent 8860 — FID, TCD or ECD?
FID is the general-purpose detector for anything carbon-based and the most common choice. TCD is used where FID cannot respond, ECD is the detector for halogenated compounds, and NPD exists for nitrogen and phosphorus compounds. For residual solvents (ICH Q3C) and OVI testing in pharma, a headspace sampler is used with the GC almost always. Tell us the method and we will confirm which configuration your work needs.
Which parts wear on a Agilent 8860, and what do the common symptoms mean?
Septa, inlet liners, ferrules, the gas purifier or trap, the syringe, the FID jet and the column are the consumables. Ghost peaks usually mean a dirty septum or liner. Retention times drifting point to the gas flow or a leak. Peak tailing means the liner has become active and needs deactivating or replacing. A baseline that keeps climbing is column bleed — the column is ageing or being run past its temperature limit. For choosing a replacement column, see GC column selection for routine analysis.
What should I tell you when the Agilent 8860 breaks down?
Send the brand and full model, the serial number (spares and warranty are tied to it), what the instrument is doing in your own words — "pressure is rising", "no peak" — since when and whether it started suddenly, any error message on the screen, when the last preventive maintenance or calibration was done, and whether the unit is under warranty, under an AMC or a paid visit. We do not promise a fix before seeing the instrument: one pressure complaint can have five different causes.
Do you service the Agilent 8860 in Mumbai, Thane or Pune?
Yes. Vision Analytical is based in Ambernath in Thane district and has worked with laboratories across Maharashtra and Gujarat since 2022, including Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. When you enquire, share the laboratory address and the instrument's full model name. Coverage does not mean a branch office or a guaranteed response time in every city — scheduling is confirmed directly with you.
What is the difference between an AMC and a CMC for a Agilent 8860?
An AMC covers the engineer's visits and labour — typically two preventive visits a year plus breakdown calls — with spare parts charged separately. A CMC is comprehensive: the wear parts are included too, although items such as lamps, columns and glassware are often excluded and the contract wording decides. Calibration is scheduled every 6 or 12 months according to your own SOP, not ours. Our article AMC vs CMC: what's the difference? goes through how to choose.
