Waters 2998 PDA Detector Troubleshooting and Service
Detector service, breakdown support and spares across Maharashtra and Gujarat.
No guide published for this model yet
We service this instrument, but nothing has been written up for it here so far. We only publish what our own engineers have actually seen on the bench, so this page waits until there is something real to put on it.
If it is down right now, that does not have to wait. Tell us the model and what it is doing — high pressure, no ignition, a code on the screen — and someone who works on this instrument will answer.

Frequently asked about the Waters 2998 PDA Detector
Straight answers from the engineers who service it — from our own service notes, published guides and the instrument's own documentation.
What does a Waters 2998 PDA detector add over a single-wavelength UV detector?
The 2998 photodiode array sees 190–800 nm and records a full spectrum at every point of the run instead of one wavelength, so peak purity and impurity profiling can be assessed from a single injection. That matters for related-substances and method-development work in pharmaceutical laboratories, where the question is usually whether a peak is one compound or two.
What should I check on a Waters PDA detector before buying it refurbished?
Confirm the flow cell condition, the lamp hours and that the spectra are clean, because air or dirt in the flow cell shows up as baseline noise and drift. Describe the HPLC system the detector will sit in, the software environment and the intended application, and ask for the checks documented for the offered unit rather than assuming every refurbished detector has the same history.
Why is the baseline on my 2998 noisy or drifting?
On the detector side it is the lamp at the end of its life (roughly 2000 hours for a deuterium lamp), or air or dirt in the flow cell. Beyond the detector, a mobile phase that is not mixing or degassing properly and a changing room temperature give the same picture. Our checklist Diagnosing HPLC baseline noise and drift works through them in order.
What should I tell you when the Waters 2998 breaks down?
Send the brand and full model, the serial number (spares and warranty are tied to it), what the instrument is doing in your own words — "pressure is rising", "no peak" — since when and whether it started suddenly, any error message on the screen, when the last preventive maintenance or calibration was done, and whether the unit is under warranty, under an AMC or a paid visit. We do not promise a fix before seeing the instrument: one pressure complaint can have five different causes.
Do you service the Waters 2998 in Mumbai, Thane or Pune?
Yes. Vision Analytical is based in Ambernath in Thane district and has worked with laboratories across Maharashtra and Gujarat since 2022, including Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. When you enquire, share the laboratory address and the instrument's full model name. Coverage does not mean a branch office or a guaranteed response time in every city — scheduling is confirmed directly with you.
What is the difference between an AMC and a CMC for a Waters 2998?
An AMC covers the engineer's visits and labour — typically two preventive visits a year plus breakdown calls — with spare parts charged separately. A CMC is comprehensive: the wear parts are included too, although items such as lamps, columns and glassware are often excluded and the contract wording decides. Calibration is scheduled every 6 or 12 months according to your own SOP, not ours. Our article AMC vs CMC: what's the difference? goes through how to choose.
